I am not a fan of atis. I tasted it once and have never eaten it again. The taste and texture is somewhat similar to guyabano but the latter is more delectable and the first has more seeds.
The following are the benefits we can get from the tree of an atis.
· The leaves are applied as a poultice to children with dyspepsia.
· Crushed seeds with coconut oil are applied on the scalp to rid it of lice.
· A decoction of the seeds is used as an enema for the children with dyspepsia.
· Externally the leaves, the unripe fruit, and the seeds (which contain acrid principle) possess vermicidal and insecticidal properties.
· The crushed seeds, in a paste with water, are applied to the scalp to destroy lice.
· The unripe fruit is astringent, and is given in diarrhea, dysentery and atonic dyspepsia.
· The bark, according to Nadkarni, is considered a powerful astringent and tonic.
If you’re suffering from asthma, sugar-apple may be good for you. Eating sugar-apple can supply an excellent amount of vitamin C, one of the potent anti-oxidants which may help decrease the risk of developing asthma, a common airway inflammation. Two sugar-apples can provide over half of the DV of fiber. Dietary fiber has shown to slow down the absorption of sugar in the body and a high fiber diet has been linked with a lower risk of developing type-2 diabetes.

The only day in the year, on which individuals may suffer from ‘paraskevidekatriaphobia’, is Friday, the 13th, which installs a morbid, irrational fear in some. With Friday the 13th looming on the horizon, some people may want to change a schedule or appointment to avoid bad luck, but regardless of whether someone is superstitious or not, it is safe to assume that there will be some people who will avoid black cats and ladders on Friday the 13th, just in case.
The question remains whether paraskevidekatriaphobia is a genuine phobia or a fear. Dr. Britta Ostermeyer, Chief of Psychiatry at the Ben Taub General Hospital and the Harris County Hospital District, who is also an associate professor of Psychiatry and Family Community Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine explained:
“It’s in our nature to do what other people in our environment do. If we see that other people are concerned about certain events, we tend to become concerned as well.”
Ringworm is a fungal disorder that can appear on any part of the body, but mainly it appears on the feet, scalp, groin, nails, between two fingers, etc in the form of rings or patches or even rashes. There can be many forms of ringworm, but the worst type is the scalp ringworm, which is often called as hair ringworm. It can affect people of any age, but mostly children are affected with it. Children between the ages of 4 to 14 are mostly affected because they are more likely to contract fungal infection. Fungal infection can be caused by pets such as dogs or cats. Ringworm is basically a contagious disease, so it can also be caused by close contact with the infected person, or using infected towels and clothes. The treatment of ringworm involves elimination of all the traces of the condition and to make sure that it is would be removed permanently. Ringworm can also be caused by sharing of the hairbrush or comb, which can spread infection.
One thing should be kept in mind is that the people suffering from ringworm may not show the symptoms of having it, so it is important to follow some of the precautionary measures, to get relieved from ringworm. Treatment of ringworm depends upon the symptoms and causes of it. So, let’s first discuss the symptoms and causes of ringworm.
Salmonellosis, or salmonella, is an infection caused by Salmonella bacteria. Salmonella infections are increasing in the United States. Many types of this bacteria cause disease in animals and people. While the occurrence of different types of Salmonella varies from country to country, Salmonella typhimurium and S. enteritidis are the two most commonly found in the United States. In 1984, an antibiotic-resistant strain of S. typhimurium, called Definitive Type 104 (DT104), was first found in the United Kingdom and recently in the United States.
Now it is the second most common strain (after S. enteritidis) of Salmonella found in humans. This strain poses a major new threat because it is resistant to several antibiotics normally used to treat people with Salmonella infections.Salmonellosis may occur in small, contained outbreaks in the
general population or in large outbreaks in hospitals, restaurants, or institutions for children or the elderly. While the disease is found worldwide, health experts most often report cases in North America and
Europe. Every year, CDC receives reports of 40,000 cases of salmonellosis in the United States. The agency estimates that 1.4 million people in this country are infected, however, and that 1,000 people die each year with salmonellosis. Symptoms are most severe in the elderly, infants, and people with chronic conditions. People with AIDS are particularly vulnerable salmonellosis-often suffering from recurring episodes.
