Ryan Gosling in “Drive”

null
Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac). After a heist intended to pay off Standard’s protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals. But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk-that they’re coming straight for Irene and her son-Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.
The first car that is assigned to our guy, in “Drive,” is indeed a Chevy Impala, in numbing silver-gray. “No one will be looking at you,” he is told, and that’s the point. Though tuned and buffed under the hood, the Chevy remains a heroically dull machine, perhaps the least memorable chase weapon since Roy Scheider clambered into a Pontiac Ventura, the color of a very tired squirrel, in “The Seven-Ups” (1973). That model was even glummer than the Pontiac LeMans—who was kidding whom, with that name?—in which Gene Hackman raced against an Elevated train, two years earlier, in “The French Connection”; and both, of course, were nothing beside the gleaming flanks of the Mustang used in “Bullitt” (1968). If you want to be seen, like Steve McQueen, you sport your car as if it were a suit, tailor made to your skills. If you want to fade into the background, though, like the fellow in “Drive,” you get something you can steal and leave behind.

See the “Red Dawn” Movie

null
‘Red Dawn’ is a remake of the 1984 invasion movie starring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen (the enemies in that flick were the Soviet Union). The new version stars Chris Hemsworth, ‘Hunger Games’ star Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and likely won’t hit theaters until 2012.
Half the reason 1984′s Red Dawn worked was because the U.S. Government had us all scared that the U.S.S.R was, “gonna get YOU!” The fact is the Soviet Union was never in any position to invade the U.S. If there ever was a war between Russa and the United States it would have been fought over in Russia, and not here. The biggest obstical an invader would have is the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, not to mention the worlds greatest navy. With that said it was a good movie, just the fact is it was a military fantasy and nothing more.
Red Dawn is a film that’s very much a product of its time. I doubt a film about Communist invasion will resonate with anyone in 2011 like it did in 1984. The N. Koreans aren’t our friends, but I don’t think many people see them the same way people viewed the Soviets and Cubans either. N. Korean simply isn’t doesn’t pose an actual threat to us.

The BodyGuard: A Great Invention Today

Equipped with a highvoltage stunner, video camera, laser pointer and flashlight, the armor sleeve is intended to prevent violent situations. The invention was designed by David Brown, a cameraman, editor and producer who makes a living filming musical acts such as Rage Against the Machine and Snoop Dogg, as well as behindthe-scenes movie footage for the actor Kevin Costner, a friend and BodyGuard investor.
null
The BodyGuard debuted in May at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Mock Prison Riot, an annual training and technology-assessment event held at a decommissioned penitentiary in West Virginia. The first demo unit will be released to the Los Angeles sheriff’s department later this year. Brown says future incarnations could include chemical sensors, an electronic translator to help soldiers communicate overseas, or biometric readers for airport security guards. “BodyGuard will empower officers worldwide,” Brown says, “and it will save lives.”

What is a Computer Animation?

null
Computer animation is the art of creating moving images via the use of computers. It is a subfield of computer graphics and animation. Increasingly it is created by means of 3D computer graphics, though 2D computer graphics are still widely used for low bandwidth and faster real-time rendering needs.
Sometimes the target of the animation is the computer itself, but it sometimes the target is another medium, such as film.
It is also referred to as CGI (Computer-generated imagery or computer-generated imaging), especially when used in films. To create the illusion of movement, an image is displayed on the computer screen then quickly replaced by a new image that is similar to the previous image, but shifted slightly.
This technique is identical to how the illusion of movement is achieved with television and motion pictures. Computer animation is essentially a digital successor to the art of stop motion animation of 3D models and frame-by-frame animation of 2D illustrations.

Get in The Lao National Museum

null
The Lao National Museum is located in Vientiane, Laos. It was founded as the national museum highlighting the revolution of the 1970s and is located in a French colonial building. In 2007, the United States donated a grant to help develop the museum. This museum, which was originally built in 1925 as the French governor’s residence, presents the history of Laos, highlighting the Laotian people’s struggle to free the country from foreign occupiers and imperialist forces. It is located on Samsenthai road, opposite the Cultural Hall.
Reaching the tourist hotspots in the city via public transport can be through a tuk-tuk ride, bus, taxi, or bike. These four are the most common means of getting around the city for those looking for cheaper ways of exploring the sights. For the tuk-tuk and taxi, you can ask the driver to drop you off right at the entrance to the Lao National Museum in Vientiane – Laos. For the buses, these can drop you off to the nearest point from which you can easily walk towards the museum.
On the first floor, you will see various artifacts that illustrate the country’s early history. These items include tools and implements from the Stone Age and theBronze Age.
The second floor provides a more in-depth look at how the country struggled against foreign powers that wanted to take hold of the nation. The items here may be as ordinary as they come such as pairs of socks used by members of Politburo during the time they broke out of prison; but these provide visitors with glimpses of how the struggle must have been like for the people.
There is also an exhibit on the Laotian Kingdom of the 18th Century. Finally, the tour culminates at the photo exhibit depicting some of the country’s important issues.

The Panoramic Buddha Park

Buddha Park, also known as Xieng Khuan is asculpture park located 25 km southeast from Vientiane, Laos in a meadow by the Mekong River. The statues are made of reinforced concrete and are ornate, and sometimes bizarre, in design. The statues appear to be centuries old, though they are not. There are sculptures of humans, gods, animals, and demons. There are numerous sculptures of Buddha, characters of Buddhist beliefs like Avalokiteshvara, and characters of Hindu lore, including Shiva, Vishnu, and Arjuna. These sculptures were presumably cast by unskilled workers under the supervision of Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat. One notable sculpture resembles a giant pumpkin. It has three stories representing three levels – Hell, Earth and Heaven. Visitors can enter through an opening which is a mouth of a 3-metre-talldemon head (9.8 ft) and climb staircases from hell to heaven. Each story contains sculptures depicting the level. At the top, there is a vantage point where the entire park is visible. Another sculpture, an enormous 120-metre-long (390 ft) reclining Buddha, is also a park attraction.

Be amazed with Djenne

Djenne in Mali, founded in 800 AD, is one of sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest cities. Situated on an island in the Niger River delta, Djenne was a natural hub for traders who shuttled their goods between the Sahara desert and the forests of Guinea. Through the years Djenne also became a center of Islamic learning and its market square is still dominated by the beautiful Grand Mosque. Djenne is located a few hundred miles downstream from Timbuktu.
The market in Djenne, held every Monday, is one of the most interesting and lively markets in Africa, and well worth planning your trip around.
The best way to get to Djenne is to take a taxi from Mopti. The journey takes about 2 hours. There are buses from the capital Bamako and Segou that go at least once a week, but you’ll have to enquire locally.
Although Djenne is on a river, it’s rarely deep enough for a regular boat service to the town. At the end of the rainy season (September) you may be able to get a boat from Mopti.
Accommodation is very basic in Djenne. Try anyone of the following:
Auberge le Maafir has rooms with a bathroom and serves breakfast.
Chez Baba has very basic rooms and a campsite in a nice location.
Le Campement de Djenne is where most tour groups stay. The Campement Offers rooftop mattresses and basic rooms.
Hotel Tapama is a Moroccan style hotel with courtyard and offers basic rooms with bathroom.

The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt

null
The Pyramids of Giza, just outside Cairo in Egypt, represent one of the greatest architectural feats by man. The last surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the world’s oldest tourist attractions, built more than 5000 years ago.
There are in fact three main pyramids in Giza; the Great Pyramid of Khufu (or Cheops), The Pyramid of Kafhre and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaura. Each Pyramid is a tomb to a different King of Egypt. In front of the pyramids lies the Sphinx, or Abu al-Hol in Arabic, “Father of Terror”.
Giza’s three pyramids and the Sphinx were thought to have been constructed in the fourth dynasty of Egypt’s Old Kingdom, arguably the first great civilization on earth. For most of us that translates in to about 5000 years ago. Even though there is still debate about how the pyramids at Giza were built, most are in agreement it wasn’t by aliens . It is believed about 20,000 laborers were used and approximately 2 million blocks of stone, each weighing 2.5 tons, just to build the Pyramid of Khufu. For an in depth account of how they were built and a virtual tour inside the Great Pyramid (Khufu).
